Sunday afternoon I suddenly got a message  from Andres, Adomo's contact person that there is a traditional trance dance performace nearby his place and I am free to come.

They were doing their monotone symbolic dances for hours on the same meditative-suggestive sounds. The event could be divided in two,  the first part is about storytelling during which long-long stories of kingdoms, rulers and wars were recited. After a short break anyone can join the second part, which is a last man standing trance challange. The music is the same heavily suggestive tone all along.

It turned out that the performance is jatilan and I was the only bule there. Lucky me.
Jatilan can be bonded to any ceremony, like birthdays, local celebrations  or sudden good mood. This one was a late afterparty for the national holiday of the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence of 17 aug. Usually the jatilan has a host who pays for the performance and food afterwards but this one was hosted by a local artist community.

Afterwards I we went to Andres's place, he is a graffiti artist. Some works of him:
