Local transport is very much based on scooters. If someone doesn't have one, rents. Or uses Go-Jek app.
Go-Jek is motorbike taxi, a local sim card is needed to use. Give the app a destination, and a pick-up point, click order ride and a motorcyclist in green gojek jacket appears in minutes. Hop on the seat behind driver, enjoy the ride. Price is calculated by the app, I think around 2-3000rp/km. Cheap. Car is available as well.
Other option is to take transjogja bus. I haven't yet tried, even cheaper they say. Galih the cyclist from UAD (not to be confused with Galuh) took me on my 5th day in Jogja to bike shop.
