Desscription of Yogyakarta by Lonely Planet:

'If Jakarta is Java's industrial and financial powerhouse, Yogyakarta is its soul. Yogyakarta (pronounced  Jogjakarta, Jogja in spoken language) is where Javanese language is purest, Java's arts at their brightest, and its traditions at their most visible.
Fiercely independent and and protective of its customs, Jogja isnow the site of uneasy truce between the old ways of life and the onslaugh of modernity. Still headed by its sultan, whose kraton remains the hub of traditional life, contemporary Jogja is neverthless a huge urban centre  (the Jogja conurbation is 1,6 million) of cybercafes, malls and traffic jams, as it is a stronghold of batik, gamelan and ritual.
Jogja remains Java's premier tourist city, with countless hotels, restaura Celnts and attractions. Its also an ideal base for exploring nearby attractions including Indonesia's most important archeological sites, Borobudur and Prembanan.'

At Jogja Airport we were welcomed by Galuh and his team from the office of international affairs (!) of UAD (Universitas Ahmad Dahlan) and taken by bus to a hotel where we stayed a few night until we find proper accomodation.

Galuh showed off his cultivation by mentioning having read Harmoniae Celestis and Ablakzsiráf in our very first conversation. Which is very nice of him, who knows, my friends, anything from Indonesian literature?

Welcome Jogja, goodbye airports!

A mealbox
Everything is wrapped in plastic in all fields of life
One favourite is 2 dl plastic cups with drinking water, covered by a plastic foil through which plastic staw has to be  tabbed.

The hotel was in a  busy university district, with many many youngsters everywhere. As I stepped out from it, some shyly smiling girls handed me a mealbox, full of unindentifiable pudding-jelly foodstuff, wrapped in many layers of plastic.
